Bell Dewar's Telecommunications and IT team has established itself as a leader in the highly technical field of telecommunications law. We have played a principal role in advising on a number of diverse transactions which have involved telecommunications of a fixed line, wireless and broadband nature.
The team's expertise has been utilised both locally and internationally in respect of all aspects of the industry: from regulatory requirements, licensing and legislative frameworks to contractual arrangements and interfacing with governmental authorities and regulatory agencies.
Our most recent telecommunication projects have rendered us pioneers in the industry. These projects include:
- advising the arrangers and lenders in the long term funding of Neotel (Proprietary) Limited to the value of R4,4 billion.
- advising the lenders in respect of the long term funding of Powercom (Proprietary) Limited t/a Cell One and the recapitalization of Powercom by its shareholders, in relation to its obligations under the National Cellular Telecommunications Licence granted to Powercom by the Namibian Communications Commission; and
- advising the mandated lead arrangers, underwriters and lenders (Nedbank Limited and Investec Bank Limited) to the Seacom project.
In every project we ensure that we assist our clients in managing the technical, economic and legal risks associated with offering or acquiring information technology services, products and solutions. We further strive to meet the requirements of the ever advancing 21st Century, which include an increasing need for businesses to become more technology-oriented to increase business agility and efficiency.
