The Lundi Gadla Scholarship was initiated by Bell Dewar in memory of our colleague and friend, Lundi Gadla. Lundi passed away tragically in February 2006 and the scholarship is intended to perpetuate his memory.
The scholarship will be awarded to a student studying at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University to cover full tuition for the current year of study. The recipient of the scholarship will be a person who requires financial support for his/her studies. The successful applicant will be a person who displays leadership ability, characteristics of a motivated and hard working person who is passionate about the legal profession and who has an interest in community issues/projects.
The granting of the scholarship will not give the recipient an automatic right to carry out his/her articles of clerkship at Bell Dewar, although if the firm does offer the recipient articles of clerkship the recipient will be required to accept. The annual renewal of the scholarship will be at Bell Dewar's discretion and will be subject to the recipient having passed all his/her subjects with an average of 65% or more.
The conditions for the scholarship are as follows:
- Registration for the penultimate year of the student's law degree
- An average of at least 65% for the years of study already completed
- Financial need
Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an interview with a Bell Dewar representative. Thereafter the successful candidate will be notified in writing.
