Bell Dewar has a long and proud history of representing clients involved in the construction and engineering industry, from designers to builders and specialist sub-contractors; contractors to sponsors; and from leaders to concessionaires.
Our professionals have represented clients in almost all of the major project finance infrastructure projects undertaken in southern Africa to date, providing in-depth knowledge of the issues peculiar to the construction and engineering industry and of the construction and operation contracts that form the basis for the project financing.
We have advised on large design, build and operate projects; build, operate and transfer projects; and on projects to provide low-cost housing to disadvantaged communities. Our team has also advised on structured property financing deals and on deals involving the outsourced facilities management of large business campuses. We are experienced in undertaking large multi-jurisdictional projects in southern Africa, involving mining and mining exploration and the construction of hotels, ports, toll-roads and industrial plant, tunnels and railways.
We have considerable expertise with all of the important standard contracts packages, including FIDIC, JBCC, ICHEME, World Bank contracts and the NEC. We have considerable knowledge of drafting and advising on civil and building agreements; collateral and support agreements; warranties; bonds, guarantees and suretyships for all types of building and civil construction and engineering projects and for electrical and mechanical plant and equipment.
